Belgian startup inMersiv Technologies, specialized in immersive therapeutic solutions, has reached an important milestone with the inauguration of a new SAM (Système Autonome Multisensoriel) device at the Integrated Memory Clinic (CIMe) within the neurology department of the Université Libre de Bruxelles’ Erasme Hospital.
This installation represents a promising step forward in the care and understanding of cognitive and behavioral disorders.
Immersive technology supporting diagnosis and therapy
SAM is a 4D multisensory immersive room allowing users to move freely within photorealistic environments. With 360° visual rendering, an advanced sound system, and directional ventilation, the experience recreates situations that closely resemble real-life settings.
The environments can be adapted to each patient and clinical objective, and users interact easily through a simple controller.
For clinicians, this technology opens several new possibilities:
- Immersive diagnostic assessments by recreating familiar environments to observe patients in situations close to their daily lives
- Behavioral observation through simulated scenarios that reveal cognitive and behavioral impairments more naturally than traditional tests

A project driven by leading medical experts
The Integrated Memory Clinic is led by Prof. Mélanie Strauss and Dr. Jean-Christophe Bier, neurologists specialized in cognitive neuroscience and behavioral disorders.
Together with their interdisciplinary team, they integrate cutting-edge technologies to enhance both diagnosis and patient care. The integration of SAM into their clinical pathway will enable more personalized treatment plans and long-term monitoring, while also contributing to research and innovation in neuroscience.
A growing deployment for inMersiv
This new installation at Erasme follows the deployment of a first SAM device already operating at the Faculty of Motor Sciences.
These implementations demonstrate inMersiv Technologies’ ability to translate technological innovation into real-world medical applications, supporting patients suffering from anxiety, depression, major neurocognitive disorders, or neurodegenerative diseases.
BeAngels supporting inMersiv’s development
In 2024, inMersiv Technologies raised €300,000 from Elev8te, a financing vehicle dedicated to partnering academic incubators and powered by BeAngels.
This funding aimed to accelerate the development and deployment of the SAM technology and strengthen collaborations with academic and medical institutions.
The inauguration of this new device at Erasme illustrates how entrepreneurial innovation can deliver tangible impact when combined with the needs of the healthcare sector.
